MIAC Opener

This past weekend we had our first MIAC regular-season series against Bethel. We were able to get 5 of the 6 possible points by winning the first game 8-2 at home and tying 3-3 on the road but winning in 3-on-3 overtime. We would have rather earned all 6 points with two wins, but Bethel played much better at home and their rink is always a tough place to play.

With that said we had big weekends from senior forwards Brady Heppner and Kyle Wagner, who both posted 4 points on the weekend and a +4 rating. Junior defenseman Travis Brown also had a big weekend with 3 points, a +3 rating and the game-winner during the 3-on-3 overtime that will not show up on his stats. Finally, we had three new players score their first career goals with sophomore forward Jerome Newhouse scoring on Friday and freshman forwards Jack Johnson and Auggie Moore both scoring on the weekend. Jack had the game winner on Friday night and Auggie Moore scored two huge goals on the road at Bethel to get us back in the game.

This weekend brings another non-conference test to St. Cloud with #5 Stevens Point coming to town on Friday and UW-Stout visiting on Saturday. Both games this weekend will be played at the Municipal Athletic Complex in Waite Park instead of our normal home sheet of ice at the National Hockey Center. Friday night’s game will be played in conjunction with the CSB hockey team’s game against Bethel. The CSB game will start at 7pm on Friday and the SJU game will start at 7:30pm. It will be a fun weekend of hockey and I hope we have a great crowd seeing it is a smaller venue and slightly closer to campus.

Thanks again for all of your support and I want to once again remind you of the SJU Hockey Alumni game the following weekend, November 23rd at 3:30pm at the Municipal Athletic Complex, followed by a social at Cowboy Jacks in downtown St. Cloud and the SJU vs. Concordia game that night at 7pm.

Go Johnnies!
